Josh Glasstetter denies leaking my information to Bradblog and claims that he left SEIU a few weeks ago.
He argues that just telling me he worked for SEIU should have sufficed to explain his motivations for contacting me. I'm not the kind of journalist who attacks the "enemies" of liberals. I don't think unions should be paying people to contact journalists and send them tips or vice versa. I had no clue that SEIU practiced such despicable propaganda tactics - if that's what they paid him to do - and I never would have written him back if I knew that.
I have no clue what the official job description the New Media Campaign Manager for the Service Employees International (SEIU) is, but it apparently has something to do with sending emails to journalists and then leaking stuff to friendly blogs in order to fight back against enemies such as the US Chamber of Commerce.
On October 17, Josh Glasstetter sent me the following message on Facebook, "Hey Ron, I work for SEIU. Michael Rogers can vouch for me. I just saw your tweet about Ryan and Barr. What's the significance of the 'stay frosty' comment? I ask because I've discovered emails which show that Barr was working with Ryan to spy on Occupy Wall Street. Please get back to me here or at josh.glasstetter@seiu.org."
Looking back now, I kind of feel stupid not realizing he mentioned SEIU in his message, but I had no clue that he was pumping me for info on behalf of a union, nor that he would end up leaking my information to The Brad Blog. I just thought it was someone who could help me fight back against Neal Rauhauser - who may be connected to The Brad Blog - and writers for Andrew Breitbart who have menaced me and many of my sources for the last five months.
[Editor's Note: No one in the blogosphere or media will report on the five month long menacing waged by the Breitbart gang against me, after a New York Times journalist asked me to defend a story I helped her report. I've been smeared, menaced with bizarre tweets and scary emails, accused of ridiculous crimes and been told the FBI and multiple law enforcement agencies are probing me, but porn, Weiner, Breitbart, cyberbullying, Anonymous, swattings and The New York Times somehow don't add up to a reportable story.]
But Glasstetter never told me he was the "New Media Campaign Manager" for a union I publicly despise - since they are tied to the Netroots - and then he ignored my subsequent emails and blocked me after he got what he wanted.
I checked his Twitter feed today after my email to him bounced back, and noticed that a week after emailing me he RT'd an article at The Brad Blog.
U.S. Chamber's Disgraced Smear Plot Conspirator, 'Anonymous' Foe, Aaron Barr Found Collaborating with Self-Appointed #OccupyWallStreet 'Snitch' contains some information from my correspondence with the SEIU New Media Campaign Manager such as the following:
In this September exchange, Ryan (who tweets under the name of his company, @ProvideSecurity, as well as a number of other aliases) replies to a tweet from Barr with "Stay Frosty," a phrase defined at Urban Dictionary as "A valediction which has come to mean 'be cool,' but which more properly understood is an admonishment to stay alert and on one's toes." Another user at Urban Dictionary defines it as "Something only a tool, wanna be rapper, or some who's trying to be cool uses."
While I think it's really sleazy what Glastetter did, what Brad Friedman did is even worse. How many of his blog posts are based on information obtained by the New Media Campaign Manager for SEIU?
Here's our unedited correspondence, taken from various emails:
Hey Ron, thanks for writing back.
I'm not sure what you mean when you say that Thomas Ryan and Provide Security could be a hoax. They may be a joke, but they're real. Ryan has been on the scene for a long time.
Did you see the Barr was cc'd on the email to Jordan Loyd?
Best,
Josh

I'm familiar with some of that fake news, so I'm with you there.
I downloaded the HBGary emails right away on BitTorrent, and there were tens of thousands, not just hundreds. It seems to me like it'd be a monumental undertaking to falsify that many emails. Perhaps you're suggesting that only a small portion of the full set of emails is falsified. That would a much easier feat to pull off.
As I understand it, the Themis group was focused on connecting more established groups with VR because of VR's fringey/shady background and reputation. Barr and the other Themis team members intentionally overestimated VR's role and reach in order to attack much more influential progressive groups. Or at least that's how I currently understand it.
Yeah, it definitely sounds like Rauhauser is trying to pull something, but that doesn't indicate to me that the emails are therefore necessarily a hoax.
I'm going to sign off for the night. This has been interesting, but I'm not sure what to think.
Let me know if you come across anything good, and I'll do likewise.
Best,
Josh

There's obviously a lot of history between you and the netroots crowd and some of the allied organizations, but I'm not familiar it. For all I knew, you were on good terms with the Raw Story crew.
I don't really have a personal stake in that stuff.
I think you're definitely right to be skeptical of many of the folks who jumped on the HBGary leaks bandwagon, but it boggles my mind how anyone (or any small group) could pull off a hoax of such magnitude (writing tends of thousands of emails). Are there any posts you can point me to that discuss this in more detail?

Josh

http://www.nyit.edu/about_nyit/news-full/securing_the_world_from_cyber_attacks_at_nyit_cyber_security_conference/
[...]FBI agents John Leo and Jordan Loyd named hacktivists – individuals who hack systems to draw attention to a particular issue – as newly emerging threats to U.S. information systems. As an example, Leo and Loyd cited this weekend’s scheduled “Occupy Wall Street.” Virtual organizers are using sites like Facebook and Twitter to call for peaceful protests on Wall Street on Sept. 17 for corporate and government change. The agents said they have been monitoring the event on cyberspace and are preparing to meet it with physical security.Rauhauser is a nut..but yeah i've been probing this Ryan guy...and I even have someone at Breitbart a little suspicious toothere's been a lot of hoaxes perpetrated this summer through anonymous...and essentially i've spent the last four months working on rauhauser who smeared me to the high heavens...but..yes...i think everything about hbgary and provide security smells and is a possible hoax...i could be wrong....if so...then they just greatly exaggerate everything

Wow... I just Googled Rauhauser. I'm not familiar, nor do I want to be judging by what came up.
I just sent over all the most interesting tidbits I've located re Barr and Ryan.
The two Barr/Ryan emails came from the PST file uploaded by Ryan to Big Government (oops!).
Feel free to use any of the material and/or pass it along, but just not with attribution to me.
Would love to hear your thoughts.

He actually smeared me to Mike and to the NY times and has been harassing me with 4chan trolls since i worked on a Weiner related article with the Times in June.Rauhauser - im fairly certain - is behind death threats to multiple bloggers and is allegedly being investigated by multiple Law enforcement agencies..but i only have that from multiple sources...not from any leas myself. But he's scary...and is using @WeOccupyAmerica and @AnonyOps and other anonymous twitter accounts..He has tricked me countless times and made me attack lots of people..because he pretends to be with Daily Kos, Raw Story, and lots of others. He IS attached to Beth Becker and PST and that clown Jesse LaGreca who is getting lots of hype.He spread hoax diaries about HBGary in januaryAnd was facebook friends with Lamo.....and created this fake twitter account for Chet Uber...I have no clue if he was part of Project Vigilant hoax from the beginning or glommed on to it.There's also a character named Asher Wolf who tweets about Wiki stuff but i think is really involved in hoaxes. I'm not sure if he's connected to Neal..but he's definitely knee deep in the Project Vigilant hoax because after I exposed the Chet Uber sock Wolf and others kept the legend alive after he deleted his account...I contacted the same FBI agent Ryan did and he just put me in touch with the press office...i seriously doubt the FBI says thanks and CC's your email to another agent without checking with superiors or lawyers etc.and there's no way that provide security could hack NSA and DoD employees and not be probed by the feds....so i think the whole thing smells.Rauhauser was later behind the leaking of the hbgary documents and gave tips to every liberal blogger from raw story to empty wheel to brad blog...............heh neal rauhauser sent me those exact two links on friday and said that ryan was Dan Wolfe (from weinergate who was a source of mine0...if you look at his @WeOccupyAmerica twitter timeline you can see him saying it a bunch of times

The best way to do that is by showing solidarity with them. We can start by passing resolutions announcing our support for Hotel Trades Council workers on strike at the Central Park Boathouse restaurant and the struggles of NYC Local 1199, SEIU (Social Service Employees Union) at Brookdale Hospital and Long Island Hospital in Brooklyn, also those facing layoffs including school aides, Local 372, DC (District Council) 37, AFSCME (American Federation State, County and Municipal Employees) and school bus drivers from the NYC ATU (Amalgamated Transit Union); of the CWA (Communication Workers of America) against demands for concessions at Verizon, of the struggle of Local 100 TWU (Transit Workers Union), to amend the NY anti-strike Taylor Law and of the UFT (United Federation of Teachers) to extend the Millionaire's Tax and the NNU (National Nurses United) to get a financial transactions tax.
